minimum of 2 years counseling experience. You will also want to
make sure that the agency is a tax-exempt nonprofit
organization.

counselors receive adequate training. You will want to confirm
that your counselor is accredited. Otherwise, you may wish to

you will receive. Make sure that your credit counselor is
accredited by the Association for Financial Counseling and
Planning Education, the National Foundation for Consumer
Credit or the Council on Accreditation. These certification
programs ensure that your accredited counselor has the
understanding and training necessary to help you assess your
financial situation and develop good options for eliminating
credit card debt.
